Anne H. Legge
Anne H. Legge was born in Maryland and studied at Pacific University in Oregon. She lived for a period of time in New Orleans, LA and attributes its vast artistic culture and music as inspiration for her own artistic journey. Pulling from that experience Anne began to find her own unique style of art created on wood using wood stains and found objects.
Moving to Los Angeles, CA in her twenties gave her the opportunity to work in the animation field for hit TV shows such as “Futurama” and “The Simpsons.” She was awarded the “Artist in Resident” for the Grand Canyon National Park in 2005 and fell in love with Arizona’s beautiful landscape. Anne now lives in Prescott, Arizona were she continues to paint and be inspired by the Southwest.
Most of Anne’s art is created on a variety of wood. The movement in the natural grains varies with each piece, helping to dictate the unique compositions. Anne uses oil and water based wood stains as her painting medium. She also incorporates a wood-burning tool for line definition and containment of color. She then seals each piece with a protective polyurethane coat. Often there are added materials such as broken records, found metals, and paper mache’ to enhance the textures and diversity in the work. Some of the pieces are framed in antique boxes and drawers and extra antique items are included to help tell a story. Each work is one of a kind.
More recently Anne has gravitated towards more sustainable materials incorporated in her artwork. She is drawn to the shapes of found objects and imagines how to create works of art that are enhanced by discarded or unused objects. That is why she has created this website under the domain of recyclegallery.com. She continues to expand her medium and enjoys the freedoms to explore new creative works.
